Bamboo! An antibacterial weapon!
Why call it a weapon? Bamboo is a special kind of plant which has exceptional natural antibacterial qualities. Bamboo bed sheets develop an amazing barrier which kills or slows down the growth of bacteria. Bamboo fibres are naturally anti-microbial and anti fungal. The reason for all this is because bamboo textiles contain an agent called “bamboo kunh”, and this agent prevents bacteria from cultivating. A study by the China Textile Industry Testing Center showed that after introducing bacteria to a sample of bamboo fabric, a 99.8% reduction in bacteria occurred over a 24 hour period.
Thousands of micro gaps in bamboo fibre work at lightning speed to absorb moisture and to dry it the moment it develops. When you sleep your body gets real hot and cotton sheets we sleep on hold heat, causing moisture to develop which brings on damp sheets that bring on bacteria and germs. Who wants to jump out of a shower feeling nice and clean and hop into a bed full of bacteria and germs? Certainly not me.
Bamboo bed sheets do not stick to the skin and are extremely cozy to sleep in. Its extraordinary natural breathability keeps you comfortable and dry for longer and will also help naturally eliminate odours. Nothing is more important than a good comfortable sleep and this can all be achieved with bamboo bed sheets. With bamboo sheets, you’ll be snug as a bug in a rug!

DO YOU KNOW ALL YOU CAN DO WITH BAMBOO? WOULD YOU TAKE A GUESS?
Bamboo ... What an amazing gift of Nature! It's incredible! Men can get very creative. But first, let our minds travel through the ages ... do you know the History of Bamboo in Asian Culture? Bamboo is much more than just a grass. For example, in China, Bamboo is a symbol of longevity, while in India, it is a symbol of friendship. In Japan, Bamboo forest was used as part of a sacred barrier against evil. But that is not all... Bamboo is also used as a weapon in Asian martial arts, as an instrument (a flute), as an ingredient in cuisine, as medicine for treating infections, as transportation (bicycles made out of bamboo!) and finally some new laptops have been made out of bamboo (instead of plastic!)....
Lately, because of the growing green trend, bamboo fiber, which is 100% bio-degradable, without pollution and is used to manufacture eco-friendly clothes and linens. Bamboo sheets... a real and peasant discovery! I had the opportunity to touch bamboo sheets, it was soft as silk! I wish I could sleep right now on the table where the sample was! They are also natural anti-bacterial, breathable and cool and hypoallergenic! As I said before, Bamboo seems to be a blessing ...
Do you know other things we can do with Bamboo? Have you tried bamboo sheets? Feel free to offer me your input...

Are you a style icon?
I’ve been bombarded lately with people asking me “What’s your Wedding Style?”. Ummm… what? Then I figured out what they meant. Here are a few examples: Luxurious, Eco-friendly, tropical, traditional, retro, “do-it-yourself”, and many more. So I started thinking being “green” is important in almost every aspect of our lives so why should it exclude weddings?
So what’s your wedding style?
Many couples are choosing organic fabrics, flowers, food and recycled paper invitations or even paper-less invites (i.e. via email), etc. It is even reflected in their wedding registries. For example, bamboo is popping up everywhere throughout the house; from the kitchen (bamboo cutting boards), to the living room, to the bedroom with furniture and bamboo sheets which are eco-friendly certified and offer great characteristics such a being anti-bacterial, long lasting, and great for anyone afflicted with allergies.
What are you registering for?
With global warming at our doorstep, making sustainable choices helps the world tremendously. Decisions that lessen the amount of carbon emissions promote sustainable practices, support local businesses, foster community and worldwide health and longevity.
So what are you doing to help the world on the happiest day of your life?

What’s with the whole Bamboo Craze?
In the past year, I have been seeing a lot of parents going “gaga gougou” for Bamboo. From clothing to bedding, many prefer bamboo from other types of material.
It has gotten to a point, where I have been to family occasions and the topic of the day amongst parents (especially mothers) is about all the amazing qualities of bamboo. So, I thought to myself why not figure out what the hype is all about and do some research of my own.
It turns out that it offers an extreme organic experience like no other which is the main reason that parents have been trading in their baby cribs’ Plain Jane bedding for bamboo.
Simply put Bamboo material is:
- Super soft, silky & fully absorbent,
- Breathable & Hypoallergenic,
- Antistatic, antibacterial & antifungal,
- Powerfully insulating & is a natural UV protector.
Just by doing this mini research, I can say that switching to bamboo linens is probably the smartest thing newborn and toddler parents have probably ever done. It said to be extremely baby friendly and can lead to better night sleep.
But give me your input.
Has anyone tried sleeping with bamboo bedding?
If not has anyone tried it for their babies?
How can a pregnant woman get some sleep around here?
In comparison to our male counterparts, we women go through a series of physical changes throughout our lives, especially when we are pregnant. Aside from constantly experiencing extreme mood swings and cravings (that men have no choice but to cope with), we experience drastic body temperature changes that make it very uncomfortable to sleep at night.
The main reason of this is because during pregnancy, a woman's metabolism speeds up and at the same time she has to carry the extra weight of her baby, and causes the body to create additional heat. This may lead the body to overheat, even during the night.
To help cope with this, there is an innovative fabric formed from bamboo and is ideal as it has unique antiperspirant and anti-bacterial properties. This material absorbs moisture and is a great help in allowing pregnant women to stay cool. Especially since summer is slowly approaching, sleeping at night will no longer be unbearable for pregnant women when covered with bamboo.
Current products in the range include duvet covers, sheets in any standard sizes as well as blankets. With simple, but elegant designs they are comfortable and smart for all stages of pregnancy. Bamboo is a great solution for the summer (especially in humid regions) and for pregnant women in general.
Also consider bamboo pillows the secret to sleeping better at night, the ideal companion for a woman that will conceive.
What products have you used or heard of that would help pregnant woman sleep better at night?

SO HAPPY TO BE FINALLY IN HARMONY WITH MOTHER NATURE: YOU WANT THE SECRET?
Here I am. In one month, I will not be a student anymore! Wow… huge step, huh? After many years living in small flats, sometimes sharing my bedroom, eating pasta everyday, wearing crumpled
and badly washed clothes, I will finally have a real job and hopefully afford to rent a nice house thanks to a decent salary.
Finally, I will get used to my new grown up life very quickly. J
Has anyone tried it before and want to share his/ her experience? Please feel free to leave a comment.
and badly washed clothes, I will finally have a real job and hopefully afford to rent a nice house thanks to a decent salary.
But most important, I can be much more eco-friendly than I was. Also, no more yelling to my roommates telling them to sort their trash and not to waste papers printing too much for their classes.
Yeah…big fights!
Yeah…big fights!
So, what would be my first investment as a grown up and eco friendly person? A guess? Bamboo sheets! Just incredible! I wanted to share with you my discovery. Bamboo is a natural cellulose fibre grown without pesticide or chemicals & totally compostable that can be composted in soil by micro-organisms and sunshine. It is also self-regenerating. Bamboo sheets got plenty of other advantages: they are naturally anti-bacterial, breathable, cool and hypoallergenic… In addition to that, they are soft as silk. Can you imagine something better than that?! Sweet dreams, wait for me, one more month left!
Has anyone tried it before and want to share his/ her experience? Please feel free to leave a comment.

Goodnight allergies! Good morning bamboo!
Allergies play a significant part in people’s lives, and what’s worse than to experience such a thing in the comfort of your own bed? Many individuals suffer from allergic reactions because of cotton bed sheets. Therefore what type of bed sheet will these people use? The solution is bamboo! The main difference between cotton and bamboo is that cotton has been known to cause allergic reactions including itching, rashes and hives. Bamboo bed sheets are hypoallergenic, meaning no human being will develop any kind of allergy to bamboo. For all those people who are sensitive and suffer from allergies, bamboos organic fibre is an excellent choice. Bamboo fibre is naturally smooth and round without any chemical treatment which means there are no harsh chemicals that may irritate the skin. Bamboo sheets are also known for their antibacterial qualities.
Attempting to control every aspect of your life in order to reduce allergies may be extreme. However you definitely can control the environment that you sleep in right? Sheets may seem unrelated to allergens; however the sheets that you choose to sleep in can impact your sensitivity toward chemicals and the quality of life. For all those allergy sufferers who wake up each morning with a runny nose, red eyes, and congestion, bamboo bed sheets is the way to go!

Wedding Registries: A long-term investment
Here are a few statistics associated with the cost of weddings in Canada nowadays.
(Statistics from Weddingbells.ca)
· Average expected cost of a wedding is $20,129 (up from $19,279 in 2009)
- $4 billion in furniture
- $3 billion in house wares
- $400 million in tableware
- Average amount spent per guest on wedding gift: 85$- 150$
Over the past few years the wedding landscape has drastically changed.
Brides and grooms are getting married later in life (27 years old and 29 years old, respectively). As a result, more and more couples have amassed a wide array of furniture, house ware, and/or tableware before getting married.
Today couples who need items can simply register at their favorite department store and create their own personal “wish list”. Thus, gone are the days of receiving useless gifts and/ or the same gift twice.
A great idea for brides and grooms to be is to invest in items or products that are long-term assets. The new “it” thing is bamboo; bamboo cutting boards, bamboo sheets, bamboo furniture, etc. For example, bamboo sheets have a lifespan far greater than cotton sheets (given the proper maintenance) and they carry hypoallergenic and antibacterial properties that can’t be beat. Bamboo sheets of 300 to 500 thread count offer quality that can challenge 1000 thread count cotton. Finally, bamboo can keep you cool on your hottest nights and can keep you warm even when your significant other can’t. What do you think?
Happy shopping!
What to register? - Now that’s the question…
After having gone registry shopping I have realized that the ultimate question is no longer is “he the one?” it has changed to “what should I register for?”
From linens (cotton, bamboo, recycled paper), tablecloths, dining plates (which to my surprise are very expensive per set), crystal tableware and stemware, honeymoon registries, and the new trend of registering to a charity for donations.
What are you registering for?
I understand the longevity of certain products like bamboo sheets with their silk like touch; I was also amazed at the qualities the saleswoman was telling me about bamboo sheets (antibacterial, keeps you warm in the winter and cool in the summer, anti-allergenic, and great if you have skin irritations etc.). So she got me thinking and I found a great website that sells loads of bamboo products- check it out.
I also understand the utility of a table cloth; however, don’t you think that 180$ for 1 bowl, 1 entrée plate, 1 dessert plate, 1 cup and 1 saucer is a bit much? So were talking 180$ x 8 = 1400$. One word - WOW. What does everyone else think? Am I overreacting here?
I think I’m going to stick to the basic necessities and enjoy the more simple things in life when it comes to my wedding registry.
Happy shopping and feel free to give me any suggestions.

... And you think you're protecting your baby? HA!
We go a very long way to protect our babies from anything & everything: sharp objects, staircases, glass surfaces– you name it! Most of the time, it’s during the day that we run behind our children to prevent them from getting hurt.
But have you thought about the danger your exposing to your infants during the night?
I mean –Yes- you tuck them in, you open the baby monitor and leave the door slightly open-Just in case.
Have you considered that you might be tucking them in with one of the biggest threats of all? Probably not…The issue here is that fitted blankets, cotton sheets, or sheepskins are not lightweight nor are they breathable. This actually poses serious suffocation risks.
Since babies are curious creatures, it’s easy for them to misuse these covers and severely hurt themselves.
This nightmare can easily be avoided by switching to bamboo sheets. This ultra light material that is breathable in nature permits babies to easily breath- even if they are tucked under the covers from head to toe. Even using products such as Baby Sleeping Sacks can protect babies during their rest.
So as a parent, I think it’s time to decide what is truly best for our children. We shouldn’t only focus in protecting them during the day, but especially during the night.
The last thing a parent needs is to wake up in the morning with the unthinkable…
